Mastering cloud sync

Cloud sync ensures your notes are always safe and up to date, whether you use MyScript Notes on a single device or across several. Sync with iCloud, Dropbox, or Google Drive to store your notes and recover them easily if needed. You can keep auto-sync enabled for seamless updates or switch to manual synchronization for more control.

Activate cloud sync

To sync your notes, you must sign in to a cloud service and enable sync in MyScript Notes.

  1. Open the Notes side panel.
  2. Tap the ... button, then choose Settings.
  3. Tap Sync.
  4. Sign in or create a MyScript account.
  5. Choose iCloud, Dropbox, or Google Drive.

Auto-sync is activated by default, ensuring your notes update automatically across all your devices where MyScript Notes is installed and linked to your MyScript account. Syncing may take a few seconds for all notes to update across devices.

Auto-sync

Once cloud sync is activated, auto-sync is enabled by default to keep your notes updated automatically — but you can disable it at any time and switch to manual synchronization.

  1. Complete the steps above.
  2. Turn Auto-sync off or back on.

Note that auto-sync is disabled in low battery mode to save power.

Display your synced notes

Once syncing is enabled, your notes are available on all devices connected to the same cloud service. Just open MyScript Notes on any synced device to view them.

  • If a note is missing, make sure the latest sync has been completed.
  • Check your internet connection and refresh MyScript Notes to trigger a sync update.

During syncing, .nebo files — the native format used by MyScript Notes — won’t appear in your cloud storage, but they are still stored there. These files can only be accessed and viewed through the MyScript Notes app. If you uninstall the app while sync is activated, your notes remain safely stored in your connected cloud service (iCloud, Dropbow or Google Drive) and should reappear automatically when you reinstall the app and sign in with the same MyScript account.

Cloud conflicts

If a conflict arises between notes in the cloud and on your device, MyScript Notes will save both versions in your library. You can review them and decide which one to keep or delete.

If you edit the same note on two devices at once, a conflict can happen. Syncing lets you access notes on multiple devices, but it doesn’t allow real-time collaboration or simultaneous editing.

About sync icons

When using manual synchronization (cloud sync on, auto-sync off), MyScript Notes displays various icons to represent different sync statuses, each with its own meaning.

Sync icons in the Notes side panel

Up-to-date—All your notes are fully synced and up-to-date, no action needed.

Refreshing—MyScript Notes is checking your local content against the cloud to see if sync is required. If so, the icon changes to a Sync button.

No internet—Cloud sync is paused and will resume once your internet connection is restored.

Sync icons next to a note

To sync—This note needs to be synced. Tap the icon to sync it, or tap the Sync button at the top of the Notes side panel section to sync your entire library.

Deleted at next sync—This note has been removed from the cloud and will be deleted from your device during the next sync. To prevent this, try updating your note. For instance, create a new page, add some content, and then close it.

Once you have edited your note, it won’t be deleted at the next sync. Just tap Sync to save your changes to the cloud and update your other devices.

Synchronization vs. backup

Synchronization and backup are distinct processes. Syncing ensures that changes in your notes are updated across all devices, while backup provides a separate copy of your notes for data restoration. Learn how to back up your notes.
