Writing and solving calculations

Updated 1 day ago

Learn how to write and solve calculations effortlessly, how to view step-by-step solutions, and how to use your math note’s zoom feature to adjust it to your liking.

Write calculations

Use your pen to write calculations and functions. No need to worry about saving — your math note is automatically saved in real time as you work.

If you want to change your pen color or thickness, just use the toolbar tools.

Solve calculations

MyScript Math is designed to help you solve calculations easily. Leave your calculation unfinished with an '=' sign, and the app automatically solves it for you, as long as all values in the calculation are defined.

Calculations that include letters or other non-numeric symbols cannot be solved directly. For example, writing x = 5 + 3 does not return a result. However, if you then write a second, unfinished calculation using the same variable, such as x =, the app automatically fills in the result as x = 8.

You can customize how results are displayed by adjusting your preferences. This includes the number of decimals, the approximation method, the angle unit, and the decimal separator. For more information, see how to manage your preferences.

Get step-by-step solutions (beta)

You can view a clear, step-by-step resolution of a math equation or problem to see exactly how the result is calculated.

The step-by-step solutions support a wide range of mathematical content, including:

  • Equations, from basic calculations to complex expressions,
  • Calculus, including derivatives, integrals, matrices, etc.
  • Statistics.
  • Word problems.

Select the equation or problem, then tap Solve step by step. The solution steps open in a floating panel, making it simple to follow the logic behind the final result. You can keep writing or editing your note while the panel is open, and move it wherever it’s most convenient. If you modify the equation after opening the panel, the solution steps do not update automatically. To see updated steps, close the panel and select Solve step by step again.

If you launch the solution steps again without changing the equation, the explanation may differ, even though the final result remains the same. This can offer a different way to understand the problem or approach the calculation.

Closing the note automatically closes the step-by-step panel.

At the bottom of the panel, you can share your feedback on whether the solution steps were helpful, helping us make the experience even better.
