Frequently Asked Questions

This section is designed to address the most frequently asked questions Nebo users have. Here, you will find answers to common inquiries, covering a wide range of topics to help you quickly find the information you need.

Can I try Nebo before buying?

You can download Nebo for free on iOS and Android, as it’s an excellent way to explore whether Nebo is the right tool for you before buying. The free version lets you try out features like pen and keyboard input, handwriting-to-text conversion, export, copy/paste, and backup. However, it has a five-page limit per notebook and doesn’t include cloud sync or AI features.

Can Nebo convert handwritten files into digital format?

Nebo uses ICR (Intelligent Character Recognition) to turn handwritten text, math, and diagrams into digital form. Unlike OCR (Optical Character Recognition), Nebo focuses solely on handwriting recognition and does not support text extraction from images.

What languages does Nebo support?

Explore the article on available languages to ensure that Nebo supports the language you intend to use. Nebo allows only one language per note, but English is always recognized alongside any selected language. Nebo doesn’t currently support right-to-left languages like Hebrew, Arabic, Farsi, or Urdu due to the layout challenges, especially when combined with English.

Why do I need to pay for Nebo in each store?

With Nebo, you pay once per platform (Android, iOS, or Windows) for full access—no subscriptions required. However, purchases are tied to your App Store ID (Apple, Google, or Windows) and only work on the store where you made the purchase. App store policies are set by each store and are beyond our control.

Does Family Sharing work with Nebo?

Nebo needs each user to have their own MyScript account to manage notes and unlock full features, so it doesn’t support family sharing. The App Store's family sharing notice for Nebo is incorrect, and we've asked for it to be removed.

Can I sync my notes with the cloud?

Sync your notes across devices with iCloud, Google Drive, or Dropbox using a free MyScript account. By default, Nebo auto-syncs to keep your notes up-to-date, but you can switch to manual sync in Settings. Syncing is included in the Nebo premium plan—just log in with your MyScript account and choose your preferred cloud service. Learn more about cloud sync.

How can I recover content that I accidentally deleted?

With Nebo 5.8 or later, you can recover notes, folders, or collections from the trash. For earlier versions of Nebo, contact our support team for help. Note that pages from notebooks or PDFs are permanently deleted and cannot be restored. Learn more about using the trash.

How do I set up a Surface Pen shortcut to open Nebo?

The Surface Pen's shortcut button offers a quick and convenient way to launch Nebo instantly. Open Windows settings and navigate to Devices > Pen & Windows Ink. Scroll down to Windows Ink Workspace, and under the Click once option, tap Launch a universal app and then choose Nebo. You can now open Nebo anytime by pressing your pen’s shortcut button.
